Ambassador Michael Marine on U.S.-Vietnam Relations

The U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam spoke October 27, 2005 at UC Irvine. We aired his talk on Subversity on October 31, 2005 at 9 am. See press release. To hear the audio of his talk, click here:

Press coverage focused on the flag recognition issue: The Vietnam News Agency ran a dispatch exulting that the Ambassador was recognizing Vietnam's flag. That dispatch was picked up in Thanh Nien, a Vietnam-based youth daily. Locally the Orange County Register ran a column in lieu of a news articleexpressing the columnist's concern that Marine didn't seem to recognize the importance of the defunct flag: "Missing Local Color". The next day it ran another article on his visit to Orange County: U.S. Official to Vietnam Opens Up.
